The second Iturbi Piano Festival<\/strong> is being prepared with a programme offering nine concerts from 28th<\/sup>\u00a0October to 4th<\/sup>\u00a0November. A total of 25 musicians will be taking part in this year\u2019s Iturbi Piano Festival, which will be inaugurated this Thursday by the Portuguese pianist Maria Jo\u00e3o Pires giving a recital in which she will perform Schubert\u2019s Sonatas in A major, Op. 120 D 664 <\/em>and his Sonata in B flat major, D 960,<\/em> as well as Debussy\u2019s Bergamasque Suite<\/em>. This concert is part of the autumn 2022 subscription season at the Palau de la M\u00fasica, and is the result of institutional collaboration with the venue.<\/p>\n\n
Following Pires, there will be renowned performers such as Carlos Apell\u00e1niz, Yulianna Avdeeva, Claudio Carb\u00f3, Josep Colom, Bartomeu Jaume, Mar\u00eda Linares, Carles Mar\u00edn, \u00d3scar Oliver, Luis Fernando P\u00e9rez, Maria Jo\u00e3o Pires, Noelia Rodiles and Xavier Torres, all soloists, together with Diego Ares (harpsichord), Antonio Sim\u00f3n (fortepiano) and the Spanish-Venezuelan Manuel Hern\u00e1ndez Silva, who will be conducting a \u201cconcerto of concertos\u201d backed by the Orquestra de Val\u00e8ncia.<\/p>\n\n
The Valencia Provincial Government is thus continuing to provide a festival, under the artistic management of Justo Romero, which commemorated the 125th anniversary of the birth of Jos\u00e9 Iturbi in 2020 and which will take place in even-numbered years, whereas the Iturbi Prize will take place in odd-numbered years. <\/p>\n\n
The festival can count on collaboration from the Valencia City Council, the Palau de la M\u00fasica, the Institut Valenci\u00e0 de Cultura via the Assistant Directorate for Music and Popular Culture, the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sof\u00eda and the Piano aux Jacobins Festival. It will take place in different venues in the city of Valencia (Teatre Principal, Palau de les Arts, Centre Cultural la Benefic\u00e8ncia and L’Almod\u00ed).<\/p>\n\n

The recital by Maria Jo\u00e3o Pires will be followed by Quintets with piano I,<\/em> the group made up of Luis Fernando P\u00e9rez (piano), Gjorgi Dimchevski and Santiago Juan (violins), David Fons (viola) and David Apell\u00e1niz (volincello), who will be taking on the world premiere of the Las l\u00f3gicas exquisitas Quintet,<\/em> expressly created by the Valencian composer Francisco Coll in response to a commission made by the festival itself. The same concert will also hear the Quintets for piano and strings<\/em> by Schumann and Shostakovich. This will be at the La Benefic\u00e8ncia Cultural Centre next Saturday 29th<\/sup> at 12 noon.<\/p>\n\n
The pianists Bartomeu Jaume and Xavier Torres, within the programme Work for piano <\/em>by Javier Costa, will be performing Costa’s complete piano catalogue, including two world premieres: Preludios ef\u00edmeros<\/em> and Remember me!!<\/em> (L’Almod\u00ed, 29th<\/sup>\u00a0November, 7:30\u00a0p.m.). This concert can count on the collaboration of the Palau de la M\u00fasica\u2019s \u201cChamber at the Palau\u201d cycle.<\/p>\n\n
Among the 25 performers participating this year, the Asturian pianist Noelia Rodiles also stands out. She will be starring in a recital in which she will play a programme of contrasts and reflections alternating works by Schubert (Impromptus<\/em> and Musical<\/em> moments<\/em>) and the Spaniards David del Puerto and Jes\u00fas Rueda, whose Sonata number 5, The Butterfly Effect<\/em> will bring the performance to a close in L’Almod\u00ed, on Sunday 30th<\/sup> at 12 noon.<\/p>\n\n
Liber Quartet, made up of the pianists Carlos Apell\u00e1niz and \u00d3scar Oliver, Javier Eguillor (kkettledrums and percussion) and Jes\u00fas Salvador Chapi (percussion), will perform Rhapsody in Blue<\/em> by George Gershwin, with a version for two pianos by the performers themselves inspired by the recording by Jos\u00e9 and Amparo Iturbi, as well as works by Bart\u00f3k (Sonata for two pianos and percussion<\/em>) and Stravinsky, playing the version for two pianos that the composer himself prepared for The Rite of spring<\/em> (La Benefic\u00e8ncia Cultural Centre, 30th<\/sup>\u00a0October, 7:30 p.m.).<\/p>\n\n

Mid-way through the festival, the Moscow pianist Yulianna Avdeeva, brilliant First Prize winner and Gold Medalist at the Warsaw Chopin Competition in 2005, will be performing works by Chopin, W\u0142bye\u0142aw Spilzman, Mieczys\u0142aw Weinberg and Rachmaninoff, at the La Benefic\u00e8ncia Cultural Centre on Monday 31st<\/sup> at 7:30\u00a0p.m. The programme Piano Quintets II <\/em>will be presenting a group made up of the pianist Carles Mar\u00edn, Roberto Turlo (oboe), Vicente Alberola (clarinet), Salvador Sanchis (bassoon) and Mar\u00eda Rubio (French horn), who will give a concert that will confront the piano and wind quintets of Mozart and Beethoven, preceded by two fantasies for piano by the two composers (La Benefic\u00e8ncia Cultural Centre, Wednesday, 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0November, 7:30\u00a0p.m.).<\/p>\n\n
The eighth date in the festival will be in collaboration with the Palau de la M\u00fasica. The Orquestra de Val\u00e8ncia, led by the maestro Manuel Hern\u00e1ndez Silva, will be giving a “concerto of concertos” which for the first time together in the history of music will include the Concerto for four pianos and strings<\/em> by Bach; the one with three pianos by Mozart, the Concerto for harpsichord, fortepiano and orchestra<\/em> by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, the Totentanz<\/em> by Liszt (for piano and orchestra), and the seldom played Piano concerto for the left hand<\/em> by Prokofiev. The pianists Carlos Apell\u00e1niz, Claudio Carb\u00f3, Mar\u00eda Linares, \u00d3scar Oliver, Xavier Torres will be performing as soloists, as well as Diego Ares (harpsichord) and Antonio Sim\u00f3n (fortepiano and piano) in this unique event. The grand finale to the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0Iturbi Piano Festival will come on Friday, 4th<\/sup>\u00a0November, when one of the big names in Spanish piano\u2019s history of perfomances, the Barcelona pianist Josep Colom, will be playing an ambitious programme with works by Franck, Stravinsky, Falla (Baetic Fantasy<\/em>), the 12 \u00e9tudes (opus 25)<\/em> by Chopin and the curiosity of a Little Spanish Dance<\/em> composed by Jos\u00e9 Iturbi himself, all in L’Almod\u00ed, at 7:30\u00a0p.m.<\/p>\n\n
Tickets for the concerts are free until reaching the venue\u2019s full capacity. The procedure for obtaining them is as follows: on the Tuesday of the week of the concert\/recital, they can be booked through the website www.entradesvalencia.com. They are also handed out in person at the La Benefic\u00e8ncia Cultural Centre\u2019s information point. - This year, there will be performances by the pianists Carlos Apell\u00e1niz, Yulianna Avdeeva, Claudio Carb\u00f3, Josep Colom, Bartomeu Jaume, Mar\u00eda Linares, Carles Mar\u00edn, \u00d3scar Oliver, Luis Fernando P\u00e9rez,<\/strong> Noelia Rodiles and Xavier Torres; as well as Diego Ares (harpsichord), Antonio Sim\u00f3n (fortepiano), <\/strong>and the conductor Manuel Hern\u00e1ndez Silva with the Orquestra de Val\u00e8ncia.<\/strong><\/li>
