The Iturbi Competition, especially the Jury over which I preside, has been orphaned by the death of the master, Menahem Pressler, at the glorious age of 99.

The press and news agencies around the world have mourned his passing, as they should, however, we are so much more directly affected by it.

Master Pressler, a great and legendary musician, who enjoyed a very long career of artistic responsibility, of doing things exceptionally well, of great music and service, was due to be a member of the Jury of the upcoming Iturbi Competition 2023. Thanks to the virtual platform ZOOM, he was a member of the Jury back in 2021, and was able to comment on and discuss the specifics of the concerts by the candidates and provide sound opinions and votes. Here in Valencia, we could feel his passion which, once again, left us in awe.

Master Pressler is irreplaceable.   Accordingly, and in tribute to his memory, we, the members of the jury, have decided that his chair will remain vacant in the upcoming competition that begins on 31 May in Valencia.

Goodbye Menahem, our dear friend. Thank you for everything!
