Edmon Colomer
Edmon Colomer created the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (Joven Orquesta Nacional de España – JONDE) in 1983. He was chief conductor of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in1985-1986, and founded the Cadaqués Orchestra in 1988. He has also conducted the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the Vallès Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaga in Spain, the Orchestre de Picardie in France, and the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea; and was the principal guest conductor of the Eastern Music Festival in the United States.
He has made recordings for radio and television in Europe, North and South America, Australia, South Korea and Japan and for the record labels Auvidis-Naïve, Assai, Harmonia Mundi, Calliope, Triton, Naxos, Ensayo, Virgin and Philips, with the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony and National Orchestra of Catalonia, the English Chamber Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, the Orchestre de Picardie, and the choirs of Radio France, BBC and Orfeó Català.
His extensive recorded output includes Falla’s Atlántida and El Amor Brujo, Gerhard’s La Peste and the Concierto de Aranjuez with Paco de Lucía, works by Beethoven, Schumann, Fauré, Ginastera, Guinjoan, Honegger, Poulenc Milhaud, Weill, Bernstein, Balada, Nillni and Lavista.
He was awarded the distinction of Chevalier of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Ministry of Culture in 2002, and has been a member of the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi since 2019. He was invited by the Regional Government of Catalonia to be curator of the Roberto Gerhard Year in 2020 and 2021.
